In short: the app is free and for guidance only. Forecasts can be wrong and the colours are computed automatically. The decision to fly is entirely yours: check the wind, the sky and the site rules before every launch.
What the app is
Paragliding Wind is a free, non-commercial web app that shows the hourly wind forecast for paragliding takeoffs and compares it with each takeoff's orientation. It includes a personal flight log. By using the app you accept these terms.
Guidance only, no warranty
- Weather forecasts, the colours (good, marginal, no), cloud types, directions suggested from the terrain slope and takeoff data are automatic estimates and may be wrong, incomplete or out of date.
- The app does not replace pilot judgement, on-site observation, official weather briefings, airspace or site rules, or training.
- As the pilot, you alone are responsible for the decision to fly and for your own safety and that of others.
- The app is provided “as is”, without any warranty of accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for any damage arising from its use.
Acceptable use
- Use the app for personal purposes. Don't use it to send automated, bulk requests to the services it relies on.
- You are responsible for what you enter in your log or site list.
Your data
The app has no server and collects no data about you. See the privacy policy.
Data sources and licences
- Takeoffs: ParaglidingEarth, licensed CC BY-SA 3.0. The list bundled with the app is shared under the same licence.
- Forecast and altitude: Open-Meteo, data licensed CC BY 4.0, used under their terms for non-commercial use.
- Real-time wind: the public Holfuy widget; the data belongs to Holfuy and the station owners.
- Maps and place names: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), OpenTopoMap (CC-BY-SA), satellite imagery © Esri.
